Tesla Paint Protection Film (PPF)

The case for Tesla PPF starts with the paint itself. Tesla and many other EVs leave the factory with thin, water-based paint that marks more easily than the thick lacquers of older cars. Combine that with the instant torque and motorway commuting most owners enjoy, and the front of the car takes a constant barrage of stone chips, sand and road debris.

EVs also tend to be heavier than their petrol counterparts, so the front bumper, bonnet and guards sit right in the firing line at speed. A clear, self-healing film absorbs those impacts before they reach the paint, so the car you collected stays looking that way.

Model 3

Most Model 3 owners start with a full front package: bumper, full bonnet, front guards and mirrors. Commuters covering motorway kilometres often add the A-pillars and roof leading edge, since a low car at speed catches debris thrown from vehicles ahead.

Model Y

The tall tailgate and wide rear opening make the boot lip the panel owners damage most, usually from prams, shopping and gear dragged across it. That edge sits at exactly the wrong height to avoid contact, and it is painted rather than trimmed.

A full front is still the priority, but a Model Y package almost always earns its keep with the boot loading lip and rear bumper top added. The larger frontal area also means more bumper surface exposed than on a Model 3.

Model S

A long bonnet and a wide front bumper give the Model S more exposed frontal area than either compact model, and the car is generally driven further per trip. That combination puts real value in full bonnet coverage rather than a partial.

The longer doors also make rocker panels worth considering, since the sill below a long door collects grit thrown forward by the front wheels along its whole length.

Model X

The falcon wing doors are the distinguishing feature and the reason coverage differs here. The door edges and the surrounding roof and pillar surfaces get touched constantly during opening and closing, in car parks where clearance is tight.

Alongside a full front, Model X packages commonly include the door edges, the upper door surrounds and the boot lip. The vehicle's height and weight also mean the front bumper takes heavier impacts than the compact models.

Paint Protection Film and Ceramic Coating do different jobs.
